What does interprofessional education actually mean, and why does it matter more than ever? Dr. Blue, who came to this work as a medical anthropologist rather than a clinician, breaks down the globally recognized definition of IPE (learning about, from, and with other professions) and explains why true interprofessional learning requires intentional interaction, not just students from different disciplines sharing a room. The conversation covers the origins of the Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice, the ongoing challenge of assessing team-based skills, and why role modeling and psychological safety matter as much as formal curriculum in teaching students to work as a team.
