New Resources to Support Implementation of Aquifer - Aquifer

Leadership transitions in health professions education programs can create disruptions in how effectively tools like Aquifer are used. Similarly, without proper orientation, students may not fully understand the value or expectations of their Aquifer assignments.

To address these challenges, the Aquifer Peer Trainer Board developed two new resources that we are excited to share with you:

New Clerkship/Program Director Checklist:

This checklist breaks down getting started with Aquifer into manageable phases—from initial access and setup to reviewing student progress. New leaders can quickly understand the steps they need to take to be most successful, from rostering students to building custom courses and beyond. The checklist provides a clear roadmap for successful implementation, ensuring continuity during leadership transitions.

Customizable Student Orientation Slides:

This modular presentation allows educators to select the most relevant slides for their program and orientation presentation. Topics include the value of Aquifer cases for clinical reasoning development, how cases are designed to mimic patient encounters, and access to PracticeSmart for self-assessment. Studies show that student satisfaction and perception of learning are most strongly influenced not by how many cases they complete, but by how well virtual tools are integrated into the curriculum. Thoughtful implementation, with clear expectations and elimination of redundant activities, improves learning outcomes and student satisfaction.

Both resources are designed to support the integration of Aquifer into your curriculum, saving you time and improving student outcomes.
