Make an Impact: Work with Aquifer to Advance Medical Education

Aquifer—a unique non-profit organization dedicated to advancing healthcare education— is recruiting new applications to join our Aquifer Consortium as a Case Author on the Surgery board. To achieve Aquifer’s goal of comprehensive curriculum coverage, we are looking for professionals who will enhance cases focused on clinical reasoning in Surgery.

With 16 million virtual patient cases completed since our founding in 2006, Aquifer is the leader in developing clinical learning tools for medical and health professions education.


Call to Action

To achieve Aquifer’s goal of comprehensive curriculum coverage, we are creating a new course in Surgery.

As part of this effort, Aquifer is recruiting for Case Authors for the development of the Aquifer Surgery Course. 


Timeline

This role will start in January 2026, with the new course anticipated to be released in July 2027. The effort itself will require specific time and duties depending on the tasks of the Case Author, as detailed below, though we will adjust the schedule based on availability.

Application Requirements Include:
  • Being actively engaged in MD/DO/NP/PA student education in Surgery.

  • Being a subject matter expert related to the case content and able to commit to the timeline.

Case Author Expectations:
  • Author and provide content for all required case components and self-assessment questions using Aquifer authoring templates and tools as provided.
  • Complete the online training module provided by Aquifer prior to engaging in the editing process.
  • Attend all scheduled working meetings with the Aquifer editor and staff members as assigned.
  • Adhere to the designated project deadlines and collaborative workflows, providing updates as requested; alert project leadership to unavoidable delays in a timely fashion.
  • Adhere to Aquifer style and pedagogical guidelines as provided.
  • Respond to and revise assigned course material that does not meet development or content standards.
  • Respond to peer review and editorial feedback and questions.
Aquifer’s Responsibilities to Case Authors:

Aquifer will provide you with the following:

  • Timely mentoring and staff support for authoring activities.
  • Expertise, guidance, and problem-solving regarding case pedagogy.
  • Upon successful completion of your work, Aquifer will provide you with a Letter(s) of Acknowledgment to recognize appropriate scholarly contributions and impact metrics as available and a recommended Curriculum Vitae citation(s).
Term:

The period of service begins upon the signing of the contract and continues through the completion of work or one year after the signing of the contract, whichever date comes first.

Qualifications:

Possesses technical skills that support the authoring process using software and remote meeting tools deemed necessary to accomplish tasks.
