Best Practices & New Tools for Teaching What Every Student Needs to Know About Palliative Care

Join our interprofessional panel of expert clinical educators as they share tips and strategies in teaching the core principles of palliative care–and preview exciting new tools for faculty and students.

This presentation focuses on primary palliative care–the idea that all health professions students should develop the skills to improve outcomes and quality of life for seriously ill patients and their families.

Dr. Susan Merel will provide an overview of the Aquifer Palliative Care project, which developed a national standardized curriculum and virtual patient cases (coming in July 2022) that addresses critical gaps in palliative care learning across undergraduate medical and health professions education. She will also provide a preview of the new case content and structure, and discuss ways to integrate the cases during the Q&A session.

Our panel of experts will present examples from their experience that highlights strategies for teaching the concepts that every health professions student should know, with a focus on building skills and core competencies needed to provide patient-centered care.
